WOODEN FLUTE MAKING
Course overview | Make your own professional wooden flute with expert flute maker, Robert Bigio.
During these courses, Robert will take you through the making of a wooden flute suitable for either Baroque or Irish music. You will be hands on in each stage of the process and Robert will help when and where required. With only two students on the course, you are assured dedicated attention as required.
Course director | Dr Robert Bigio: Internationally respected flute maker and author of the book Rudall Rose & Carte: The Art of the Flute in Britain.
Materials | Usually African Blackwood with metal ferrules (band that goes round the joints) but other woods are on offer.
Flute type | There is a choice of two models to make; either a Rudall & Rose at A440 (modern pitch) with no keys, or a Stanesby at A415 (common baroque pitch) and one key. (NB. The first person to sign up for the course will decide which instrument will be made for each course.)
Abilities | Suitable for adults and students over 16 years old: musicians, artisans and craftspeople. Some woodturning experience is desirable but not essential. Please contact us if you have had no practical woodworking experience at all before starting the course. It helps us plan the sessions.
